John,

I am very excited about the new CDs .. mostly because I am relatively new at this hobby. Dozens, maybe hundreds of those old issues I have never seen. (question omitted)

Thank you and the magazine for making such an exciting opportunity available at a very reasonable price.

I am excited, too. I am also new to the hobby, and this will be a great resource!

From all appearances, a very worthwhile venture. Sure will make it a whole lot easier to have everything at your fingertips and it solves the problem of what to do with unwieldy stacks of past issues of the publication. It's something I will definitely purchase because of my interest in, and frequent need for, researching information related to the hobby.

After coming back to the hobby after having to pack everything up in '85, I only found out about the magazine a little over a year ago. Now I can research all those back articles. Great.

Looks like these disks will let me clear out my whole closet! I hope the other magazines will do this. Thanks OGR!

Rich,

This is a phenomenal idea, now may I return all of my OGR magazine binders for a refund?!

Just kidding. Congratulations on another great product from OGR. Now all we need is an index that covers all the runs back to 0 so we can search by topic. I realize that to produce an index like that would take a lot of time and money, so I don't expect it anytime soon unless you stumble upon a retired PHD in librarianship that doesn't have a life and likes trains.

Just got my Volume 1. Thanks, George Seil for the prompt shipping!

I've had time only to browse Run 1. Easy to load, great format, easy to navigate. Great job OGR!

John and all of the folks at OGR that worked on this great project ... my first disc arrived today. I have sat here for an hour mesmerized with just the first volume. The product is just as you promised ... and even though in your FAQ, you spoke of some early printing problems and print yellowing that affected some of the scans, I have found nothing but perfect reproductions of the earliest pages.

I asked for this archive for Father's Day. My 4-year old Grandson, my best O-gauge buddy, told me that is exactly what he wanted to give me ... so I ordered it. I am sure we will share this terrific archive of Model RR history together in the coming years.

Just wanted to say THANKS!!

NOTE: Sadly, Doug Miller, aka Mooselips on the OGR Forum, passed away in August 2006. Doug was a television personality for KSL TV (NBC affiliate) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Although I never met Doug, I corresponded with him several times via the OGR forum. I debated putting his quote on the web page. However, his comments clearly showed his special bond with his grandson, enthusiasm for our great hobby, and the small ways we can touch each other's lives -- even from great distances. www.ksl.com contains a forum with dozens of notes expressed shortly after his passing. His contributions to the OGR Forum have been missed. JHH

Ordered both ... look forward to this big time ...

John,

I received Run 209 in the mail today. I was thrilled to see that OGR will be archived on CD-ROM. I plan to buy the entire series as it is released.

One or two years ago, I e-mailed (another magazine) suggesting that they undertake a similar project. Remarkably, they answered my e-mail, but pooh-poohed my idea. Reasons: (1) too much work; and (2) no one would buy the CD-ROMs, or so the editorial staff thought. I was really ticked w/the closed-minded response.

I appreciate OGR and you even more for undertaking the CD archive project. I think this project is another selling point for OGR and will create a lot of goodwill.

Thanks again!

I have the first two CDs. They are very easy to navigate and the quality of the images is first rate. You can search for words in the titles of articles if there is something you are looking for. Also, when you are viewing an issue (let's say you're reading the letters to the editor), you can skip to the next page, next article, to the same regular column (letters to the editor) in the next issue of the magazine, etc.

They are a great product.
